Mayors for Guaranteed Income (MGI): Flipping the Script on Poverty

Partners: EPIC, USC’s Hollywood Health & Society, UTA

E3 Nexus partnered with Mayors for Guaranteed Income (MGI) to reframe how poverty and economic justice are portrayed in mainstream storytelling. Recognizing that narratives shape public perception and policy, we brought together a powerful coalition of civic leaders, creators, and changemakers to inspire a new cultural conversation around guaranteed income and human dignity.

Our team co-produced a groundbreaking convening featuring Mayor Eric Garcetti, Mayor Michael Tubbs, Roxane Gay, Carri Twigg, and Assemblymember Isaac Bryan—bridging the worlds of policy and entertainment. The session connected television writers, industry executives, and local leaders to explore how storytelling can humanize poverty, challenge stigma, and envision equity on screen.

Beyond the convening, E3 Nexus curated a Writers Room Integration Tour, facilitating conversations with leading shows like Power and The Chi. These sessions helped writers understand the real-world impact of economic insecurity and inspired narrative arcs rooted in authenticity, empathy, and systemic awareness.
